Flow Cytometry Course, 4 – 8 September 2023
23 2004 to 08 September 2023
York – United KingdomThis Flow Cytometry Course is aimed at both clinical applications and applications in cell biology, with the common fundamentals covered on Day 1 and 2. The course then splits into clinical applications and applications in cell biology streams, from practical demonstrations to lectures highlighting not just the applications, but best practise as well. The course is constructed as a set of three modules. You can elect to attend the course from between two to five days, depending on the modules selected. The modules consist of lectures interspersed with sessions in the laboratory. It is anticipated that instruments from two manufacturers will be available for practical work. This course is open to all and is suitable for those who are relatively new to flow cytometry and who wish to expand their experience with applications and specific analysis.

13th European Microscopy Congress (former EUREM)
22 to 27 August 2004
Groenenborger complex – Antwerpen – BelgiumOwing to the developments in Near East it was agreed during an EMS General Assembly in Lecce, September 2002, that in January and April 2002, the EMS should stepwise decide on a possible change of venue. To all parties involved it was clear that the situation in Jerusalem, where the meeting was planned to be held, was such that there was real doubt that a congress in this city would be successful. The EMS president sent a letter to all European Societies for Microscopy, asking for their help in taking over the work done so far by the Israeli Organizing Committee. The Executive Board of EMS received three proposals and on the 18 th of April, a telephone conference was organised in which all members of the Executive Board participated. After this discussion, the unanimous decision was taken to accept the offer of the Belgian Society to organize EMC 2004 (European Microscopy Congress) in Antwerpen. The date of the Congress has not been changed: August 22-27, 2004. Presently, the International Advisory Board is being composed, and soon the agreement between EMS and the Organising Committee in Antwerpen will be signed. The First Announcement will be distributed at ICEM15 in Durban. We have to thank our Israeli colleagues for all the work they have done in preparation of EMC 2004 and express the hope that peace will be restored in the area soon.

Getting the most from your Confocal Course
00 November 0000 to 11 July 2024
University of York – York – United KingdomThis two day annual confocal course, held at the University of York, utilises many different sample types and fluorescent probes (DNA stains, classic antibody labels and fluorescent proteins) which are chosen to best demonstrate particular problems and techniques. Focus is always on the techniques they enable and the problems they generate, which will be applicable to any sample types. The two days consist of short tutorials followed by hands-on practice.
Day 1 takes participants through the basic principles of confocal microscopy and then trains them, through hands-on practice, how to configure and image multicolour, multidimensional samples using a confocal microscope.
Day 2 builds on the experience of Day 1 and enables participants to try FRAP and spectral profiling.
